OMG!

Here are some things I've found recently that have the power to make me scream like pre-teen at a Justin Beiber concert:

1.)  www.adagio.com is a website for buying tea with a really cool twist. You can design your own tea blends! You get to pick three different tea options to blend together and the percentage of each ingredient. You also get to name it and upload a picture for the package. Then you can share it with facebook and twitter. One of the great things about it is it only costs $10 bucks for three ounces which isn't a bad price at all. It's a really fun site if you a tea lover. I myself am thinking about creating teas inspired by Batman's Rouge's Gallery. I've already done Scarecrow. Cause you know I'm a total nerd like that.

2.) As I mentioned in my last post I've become a huge fan of BBC's Sherlock and I recently found an Etsy shop that's right up my alley. Dorothy Donne the self proclaimed "Consulting Fangirl" has a lovely little shop. It  hasn't got much in it at the moment but what it does have is fabulous. There are rubber bracelets for Sherlock and Doctor who and a Sherlock button set. All are must have's for any fan of either show and if I had any money at the moment I'd have all three. Here's the link please check it out. http://www.etsy.com/shop/dorothydonne?ref=seller_info

Anyway that's all I've got for now but if I find anything else I'll let you know. Check them both out you'll fall in love. I promise.

Sorry

Wow I can't believe it's been almost a year since I've posted. Sorry I freely admit I'm a horrible person with the attention span of sugar high toddler. I promise I'll do my best to post on here more. I want to be a better blogger I swear. Like John Watson on BBC's Sherlock. Which I have been in love with since discovering it. It's fabulous really and if you didn't already love Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss for their work on Doctor Who then you'll definately love them for creating this show. It's a modern day telling of Sherlock Holmes and absolutly fantastic. I've been reading alot of fanfiction related to it. Which is my new favorite obsession. I probably spend an unhealty amount of time on www.fanfiction.net but it's so much fun. There are some fantastic writers on this site and there is even a sister site for publishing orignal woks called www.fictionpress.com which is just as fantastic. If you've ever been intrested in writing both sites are a great place to get started. It's easy to sign up and it's nice to get feedback about your work. I've even started writing some of my own fanfiction though I haven't gotten up the courage to try doing any original works yet. Anyway if your intrested in trying to find something new and fun to read give both sites a try you just might be supprised at what you find. Also if you want to check out my writing I'm FallonHolmes on the fanfiction site. Happy reading or happy writing which ever works for you.

Happy Easter!

Hello everyone! Sorry for the silent treatment but I'm back in time to say Happy Easter and wish you all the best in hunting down those clever little eggs. My favorite part of Easter was always the hunt and it doesn't matter how old I get it still is. Of course now I'm more likely to help the youngest in a group find their share. Another thing that gets me excited about Easter nowadays are the crafts. Egg decorating, paper garlands, glitter egg bombs, and tissue paper flower bouquets are just a few of my favorites. Hopefully your Easter is jam packed with fun and if your a nature lover like me as Eco-friendly  as possible. Thanks for checking in with me and I promise not to be so long with my next blog. Much love and peace to all. May you be blessed with everything you need this Easter.

Christmas Shopping

Ah November, Halloween has come and gone and the air is filled with the smells of crisp apples and decaying foliage. Also quickly permeating the air is the rapidly increasing scent of desperation as people try to hunt down the perfect gift for their loved ones. In today's economy everyone's looking for the best deal and there's certainly nothing wrong with that. For those of us that are crafty such as myself this means making the majority of the gifts you plan on giving and more power to you. For those of you who aren't so creative but appreciate hand crafted goods I suggest you try holiday shopping on Esty. Etsy is a site where talented artists and crafters come together to sell their products. Some can be a little pricey but if your willing to dig you can find some great deals on quality goods. I myself have a shop there called Crystal Poetry and really I enjoy being a part of the Etsy community. They even have teams on Etsy and several of the teams have shops that donate their proceeds to charities. One of the teams I'm a part of is the Queer Etsy Team and their group shop donates 100% of their proceeds to the Trevor Project which is the only crisis and suicide prevention hotline for LGBTQ youth which with this growing rash of gay teen suicides is a hotline in desperate need. So if your looking for quality handmade gifts this holiday season look no further than Etsy and maybe pick up a gift that gives back.

Soap Making

I love the idea of a signature scent. Smell is the sense most closely connected to your memory so the idea of a smell that is uniquely you appeals to me. Something that when smelled makes a person think only of you. I'm not against mainstream perfumes, I have a few favorites, but you don't really want to end up with someone and have them tell you your scent reminds them of their mother. To prevent this sad occurrence I suggest making your own handmade soaps. Soaps and lotions create a great baseline scent without being overpowering. Picking a scent that compliments your favorite perfume allows you to layer them together and turn a easily store bought scent into something uniquely you. For those of us who don't have the resources to create soap from scratch I suggest using a melt and pour base. There are several soap bases to choose from as well oils you can add to further enhance the benefits of your soap. My personal favorite is a goat's milk base with sweet almond oil added in. They pair together to make a rich moisturizing soap. Picking your scents can be somewhat tricky. A good thing to keep in mind is that there a three categories of scents or notes. Notes are categorized based on how quickly they evaporate. They follow as such:
  • Top notes: The scents that are perceived immediately on application of a perfume. Top notes consist of small, light molecules that evaporate quickly. They form a person's initial impression of a perfume and thus are very important in the selling of a perfume. Also called the head notes.
  • Middle notes: The scent of a perfume that emerges just prior to when the top notes dissipate. The middle note compounds form the "heart" or main body of a perfume and act to mask the often unpleasant initial impression of base notes, which become more pleasant with time. They are also called the heart notes.
  • Base notes: The scent of a perfume that appears close to the departure of the middle notes. The base and middle notes together are the main theme of a perfume. Base notes bring depth and solidity to a perfume. Compounds of this class of scents are typically rich and "deep" and are usually not perceived until 30 minutes after application.
A quick online search will help you identify the type of note for any scent your looking at using and give you a good point in the right direction but nothing can subsitute your own noses. As long as a scent appeals to you and merges well with you other choices you should go with your instincts. Just remember not to go to overboard because your not the only one who has to smell you.
